I created this bird drawing on Strathmore archival quality drawing paper using Prismacolor graphite and soft core colored pencils.
While visiting the Caribbean, I saw many of these zippy little birds, which range in size from 4 to 5 inches. The bill of the Bananaquit is curved and used for collecting nectar from flowers, and often they are easily attracted with bowls of sugar water. For this reason they have the nickname, the sugar bird. One can easily view 15 or more at once. They produce a flurry of activity near feeders and are a treat to watch.
