Fall Family Traditions

Fall family traditions and activities appreciate the changes in nature and the harvests of the season. Since daylight dwindles and dusk arrives sooner, we tend to gather more often at home with family and friends. After the hot, lazy days of summer, the cool crisp breeze of fall is a refreshing change.

Fall Family Outdoor Walks

Outside we take walks in the park and bask in the magnificent color of the season – the trees glow in vibrant colors of yellow, gold, and crimson, and there are new treasures of nuts, leaves and seeds scattered on the ground. As we walk, we share thoughts on the upcoming holidays. From the shuffle of leaves beneath our feet, a spicy scent is…bringing back autumn memories.

I remember raking leaves into a large pile and jumping into the noisy, soft crunch of them. When I was a child, we would build leaf forts and play hide-and-seek.

Some charming places we like to visit in fall include the A.I. Root Candle Company, and the Red Wagon Farm in Ohio. At A.I. Root, the delicious scent of candles and warm welcome make for a great way to spend a rainy, cool day. There are a large selection of candles to sniff and plenty of creative showrooms to explore. Our favorite candle scent for fall is Pumpkin Spice. I’ve been using these candles during the fall season for over 10 years and the scent of them filling our home has become a fall tradition.

Another favorite fall family tradition includes a visit to the Red Wagon Farm. When our daughter was a young child we participated in the Fall Festival Tour which included a wagon ride through Scarecrow Village, a straw jump and corn maze. To this day, we visit the Red Wagon Farm in autumn to pick plump pumpkins from the patch and purchase fresh, crisp apples to take home.

At home we enjoy the season of fall by decorating with pumpkins, and scenting the home with Pumpkin Spice candles. We watch reruns of the Addams Family television series, carve pumpkins, create haunted gingerbread houses, and discuss Halloween costumes and festivities. (At the sound of “costume” our cats hide.) I cherish all these special times.
