Working at American Greetings provides a great opportunity to learn about cultures and holidays. Many of the products I work on during the day in the office inspire me when creating artwork from home, and in this case, I was inspired by the American Greetings “Irish Blessing” ecard to create this “Old Irish Blessing” artwork.
The “Old Irish Blessing” artwork is a study of hand lettering and illumination. Before working on the piece, I researched many lettering and calligraphy books from the library, and found that the “Calligraphy and Illumination: a history and practical guide” provided the most interesting resources, details and instruction.
After completing this piece, I took it to Art Etc. Picture Framing, in Cleveland, Ohio for framing. The staff was very helpful, knowledgeable, and they took time to explain the different aspects of framing to me. I’m very pleased with the results and I believe the frame compliments the artwork very well! My rendition of the “Old Irish Blessing” was displayed in the American Greetings, Lettering Trend Group Art Show in June 2014 and now rests in my hallway at home.
