Travel to St. Thomas

About a month ago we returned from a family vacation in the Caribbean and I often think of the special times we shared together on the islands. We enjoy the tropical land, sea, skyscapes, and exploring new places. The welcoming people and beautiful beaches are the best!

We have always stayed at the Island View Guesthouse on St. Thomas. It feels like home away from home and the staff is welcoming, friendly and provides excellent service. The garden here is beautiful and the view of the Caribbean Sea is breathtaking.

It’s pleasant to enjoy complimentary breakfasts and delicious dinners from the veranda room at the Island View Guesthouse. There’s great music and guests are casual and friendly. Over the years we’ve made friends here and get together when we visit.

From the Island View Guesthouse up on Crown Mountain, you can see Charlotte Amalie, Frenchtown, Crown Bay, Elephant Bay, Water Island, Hassle Island, Buck Island, and Capella Island. It’s interesting to watch the ships and boats in Elephant and Crown Bay. The guesthouse provides binoculars guests may use to get an intersting view of all the activity.

St. Thomas has beautiful beaches. The water is clean and clear with amazing shades of turquoise and blue. The sand is fine and looks pink due to all the coral in the sand.

Meghan's Bay is a great beach anytime and especially on a windy day.

Our favorite beaches on St. Thomas are Magen’s Bay, Smith Bay, Sapphire, Secret Harbor and Coki. Megan’s Bay Beach is long with a concession stand, bathrooms and a shower house. It’s a good place to walk the beach and cool off in the calm water, and since it’s well protected by the hills it’s a good beach to go to on a windy day. It’s listed as one of the most beautiful beaches on earth.

We like to swim at Lindquist Beach.

My daughter and I like to swim at Lindquist Beach.

On Smith Bay Beach, also known as Lindquist Beach, the sand is pink and its natural beauty is amazing with palms and a view of Islands from the beach. One can see St. John’s Island from here. It’s a quiet beach many locals enjoy with their families.

Sapphire Beach Luxury Resort is located on Sapphire Beach. The view of the sea here is a dazzling sapphire blue. It’s a good place to go with bathrooms, a restaurant and water sports center.

Secret Harbor Beach Resort sits on a short and beautiful beach. It has a nice outdoor restaurant on the beach, bathrooms and a water sports center. The snorkeling here is good and one can rent kayaks and paddle boards by the half hour.

Last, but not least is Coki Beach. This is one of the best beaches for snorkeling. There are many varieties fish to easily view here and it has a local feel to it with music on the beach. Friendly waiters and waitresses will take your order and deliver it to you from your sun bathing spot on the sand. Talk about wonderful service!

Coki Beach, St.. Thomas: Snorkeling and feeding the fish.

It’s good to know that it’s best to go to Coki Beach on a quiet day when there are few ships in port. Tourists come to this beach in herds from the cruise ships and it can get very crowded.

If you like the tropics I hope you have the opportunity to visit St. Thomas. It’s one of my favorite islands.
